And here he is, the sad Patas Monkey, staring pitifully out of his cramped and small cage. Adult males are considerably larger than adult females. Reaching speeds of 55 km/h (34 mph), it is the fastest runner among the primates. This fact makes it all the more sad seeing him in his cramped cage. The patas monkey feeds on insects, gum, seeds, and tubers, a diet more characteristic of much smaller primates.(Emirates Park Zoo, Samha, Abu Dhabi, Jan. 2015) |
