English: The grave of Major General Andrew Gilbert Wauchope of Niddrie, Scotland, who died of wounds sustained at the battle of Magersfontein. Buried initially with his men there, he was shortly afterwards exhumed and reinterred at Matjiesfontein by James Logan. The grave is simple, but on a nearby hill stands a great memorial obelisk erected by the British Army. Trivia : Wauchope is buried a few yards from renowned cricketer George Lohmann. |
