Saint Nino miracle

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: I was informed by a researcher these women are not crying, as I thought, they are sleeping except for 2. The 2 women that are awake are witnessing the miracle of Saint Nino.

The woman with the opened eyes is called Sidonia. She is witnessing the miracle of Saint Nino, a Georgian Saint of the 4th century.

The Georgian ecclesia was building a church and they brought this massive column and the men tried to erect it in the naos of the church, but they couldn't. However, Nino did not give up; she stayed up all night praying and a miracle happened. Jesus with two angels appeared to her and erected the column in the Naos. All of the sleeping women, Nino's followers, were asleep; however, Sidonia was awake and she was the one who told the people of Saint Nino's vision.

Christ is in the larger picture in the upper left corner directing the two angels on how to erect the column. Saint Nino's prayer is fulfilled.

The fresco is in the first bay to the left after entering, see 5626.

These are frescoes from inside the church, there are some outside, not in this category. The church has many frescoes with scenes from the life of St. Gregory as well as from the life of Jezus, and other more "general" scenes. Many have been ruined by the vandals who decided this was a good spot to let the world they exist, are in love, love a football club and so forth. Shame on them.
