Le Shanghai Museum a été inauguré en 1997, il est situé sur la Place du Peuple. Il comprend plusieurs galeries présentant des bronzes chinois anciens, des sculptures, des céramiques, des peintures, des calligraphies, des sceaux, des objets en jade, des monnaies, des meubles des périodes Ming et Qing, des objets ethnologiques appartenant aux principales minorités de la Chine.
