Description
Nederlands: De rooms-katholieke parochiekerk van St. Nicolaas, in de volksmond bekend als Artländer Dom, is het symbool van Ankum, een oud marktstadje waar vroeger voornamelijk laken werd verhandeld. Op de Vogelberg, hoog boven de marktbogen, staat de aan Sint-Nicolaas gewijde kerk. De kerktoren is 79 m hoog en rust op een onderbouw van drie verdiepingen die in 1514 werd gebouwd op de oude kerk, die waarschijnlijk vóór 1100 werd gebouwd. Het oude Ankumse kruis, dat rond 1280 is gemaakt, wordt in de kerk bewaard. De huidige kerk werd gebouwd na de brand in de oude parochiekerk in 1892 over een bouwperiode van vier jaar vanaf 1896 en ingehuldigd in 1900. De Berlijnse beeldhouwer Paul Brandenburg creëerde de altaartafel, tabernakel, ambo (katheder) en andere details, zoals de deurklinken.
