Summary
[edit]DescriptionAntalya Museum Meleagros statue 06.jpg |
English: This is a statue of Meleagros, Roman, second century AD, found in Perge in 1981 in the Gallery of Claudius Peison (to whom it is dedicated) at the South Bath.
The Meleagros myth is very complicated, for this statue it is of importance that he put a spear through the heart of a monstrous boar ravaging the country, after Atalanta, the most fearless huntress of Arcadia struck it with an arrow. He insisted she'd deserved the honours of the hunt. The boar's head is shown to his right, a dog to his left. This is a copy of a fourth century BC original by Skopas.
