Summary
[edit]DescriptionAntenna Tuning Unit, 250 KW AM station, 6 tower array.jpg |
English: The antenna tuner for a 6 tower, 250 kilowatt AM radio station. It is located in a shed called a "helix house" near the antenna towers. The transmitter that produces the radio frequency current to feed the antennas is located further away from the antennas, and the current is fed to the antenna tuner through coaxial cable. From the tuner the electricity is conducted to the antenna towers. The purpose of the antenna tuner is to match the impedance of the feedline to the impedance of the antennas so the power can be fed efficiently to the antennas, and second to feed the power to the antennas with the proper phase so the antenna has the proper radiation pattern to cover the audience areas. |
