Description

Apis mellifera Linnaeus, 1758 - western honey bee on bloodflower (Asclepias curassavica Linnaeus, 1753) in Florida, USA. (Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation's Native Plant Nursery, Sanibel Island, Florida, USA)

The western honey bee is native to the western Old World. It was purposefully introduced to America in the early 1600s as a pollinator and honey producer. The bloodflower is native to the tropical New World.
