| Description |
English: Built in 2018-2021, this Contemporary building was designed by Lord Aeck Sargent for Western Carolina University to serve as a new natural sciences building, housing various classrooms, laboratories, offices, and lecture halls for the university’s science program, replacing a building built in 1974, which stood to the east of the new structure. The building was named for former North Carolina Senator Tom Apodaca, an alumnus of Western Carolina University, who supported the building’s construction and pushed the state government to fund it. The building features a brick exterior with areas of slate, metal panel, and glass cladding, an L-shaped footprint that wraps around the site of the building it replaced, a large glass-enclosed entrance lobby with a shed roof, and glass-enclosed stairwells. |
