Stèle du train des équipages représentant un soldat conduisant un chariot tiré par deux mulets, fin du Ier s. EC

Représenté dans l'une de ses tâches quotidiennes, ce soldat conduit un lourd chariot à quatre roues chargé de ballots et attelé de deux mules placées de front. Assis à l'avant de la voiture, l'épée au côté, le conducteur tient les rênes de la main gauche, tandis que, de la droite, il brandit un fouet. Un arbre suggère l’arrière-plan. L'inscription - partiellement brisée - ne peut nous apprendre le nom du légionnaire, mais précise qu'il est mort à 40 ans après avoir effectué 16 années de service dans l'armée et que le monument a été élevé sur sa tombe par l'un de ses héritiers : an(norum) XL stip(endiorum) XVI h(ic) s(itus) e(st) H(eres) f(aciendum) c(uravit).

Cette stèle, trouvée en remploi dans le mur d'enceinte du camp, est la seule figuration de véhicule actuellement conservée dans les collections strasbourgeoises.
