Arghun in Tārīkh-i Jahān-Gushā (head reconstruction diptych)
This is a retouched picture, which means that it has been digitally altered from its original version. Modifications: Attempt at cleaning the obvious smugged portions around the head and the hat, and replacement with a similar hat from contemporary Ilkhanid paintings.. The original can be viewed here: Arghun in Tārīkh-i Jahān-Gushā - The History of The World Conqueror A.H. 689 A.D. 1290 - Suppl. Pers. 205 - Bibliothèque Nationale de France.jpg.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Arghun in Tārīkh-i Jahān-Gushā (head reconstruction diptych. Reference: Mongol brimmed silk hat in (2017) The Diez albums: contexts and contents, Leiden Boston: Brill ISBN: 978-90-04-32348-3. "The men are portrayed as wearing elaborate Mongol brimmed hats with a variety of accessories, including feathers and flying ribbons, and the high-ranking status of the enthroned ruler is also indicated by his imposing hat, not by his robe. Often depicted as an indication of the Mongol ethnic background in early fourteenth-century paintings from West Asia,53 this type of headgear is also reminiscent of actual examples discovered in Mongolia (fig. 9.8).54 None of the Mongol men in Type 1 wears a turban, a symbol of Muslim men"
