| Description | <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major's_Hill_Park">Major's Hill Park</a> taken from the East observation deck of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_Tower">Parliament Peace tower</a>, facing East during Christmas. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chateau_Laurier">Chateau Laurier</a> is on right, Westin Hotel on far right. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embassy_of_the_United_States_in_Ottawa">American embasy</a> on left. When viewed at full size, you can just barely see the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rideau_Canal">Rideau Canal</a> locks at bottom. I did not have my tripod so most of the shots were shaky except for this one. In astronomy we call this procedure <a href="http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/~optics/Lucky_Web_Site/index.htm">'Lucky Imaging'</a>, however the selection is more severe, only 1% of exposures are retained. (I am planning the construction of a 3-meter diameter liquid mirror <a href="http://laserstars.org/project/chile/">telescope in Chile</a> which uses this technique. I have one third of the funds required so far). |
