Description
English: Arms of Rolls family of The Hendre, near Monmouth. The Rolls family of Monmouth derive from John Rolls (1735–1801), son of Aaron and Elizabeth Rolls, the Grange, Bermondsey, and of the Hendre, Monmouthshire, High Sheriff of Monmouthshire in 1794. Charles Stewart Rolls was the co-founder of the Rolls-Royce company): Quarterly of 4:
  • 1&4: Or, on a fesse dancettée with plain cotises between three billets sable each charged with a lion rampant of the field as many bezants (Burke's General Armory, 1884, p.868; motto: Celeritas et Veritas), difference of Rolle of Stevenstone, Devon (Baron Rolle).
  • 2: Gules, an eagle displayed barry of six erminois and azure (Coysh; John Rolls (1735–1801), son of Aaron and Elizabeth Rolls, the Grange, Bermondsey, and of the Hendre, Monmouthshire, High Sheriff of Monmouthshire in 1794, married w:Sarah Coysh (d. 1801), heiress of her brother Richard Coysh.
  • 3: Or, a saltire sable in chief a leopard's face of the second. The coat of arms does not currently match the blazon, the 3rd quarter being currently depicted as "Argent, a saltire between two leopard's faces in pale and two crosses flory in fess sable."
