Arthur M. Wellington, editor of The Engineering News, died Thursday night at his home, 34 Gramercy Park. He had been Ill with kidney disease for a long time. He was born at Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1847. He came to New-York early in life and was engaged on the Prospect Park works under Frederick Law Olmsted. Mr. Wellington was appointed Chief Engineer of the Toledo and Canada Southern Railway in 1872. He was subsequently engaged with the Buffalo and Erie Railroad, the West Farms Railway, and the Great Western Railroad. He was made engineer in charge of the Mexican National Railway in March, 1881, and afterward became Assistant General Manager of the Mexican Central Railway. He returned to New-York and became one of the editors of The Railroad Gazette in 1884. He afterward became editor and part proprietor of The Engineering News. Mr. Wellington was the author of standard works on railroad location, and was regarded as an eminent consulting engineer.
