Description
English: Arulmigu Peruvudaiyar Temple at Gangaikonda Cholapuram, Ariyalur dt, Tamil Nadu, India, is a replica of the temple at Thanjavur. Though the temple has been partly destroyed by the mughals during their invasion into India the temple still holds national importance under the ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains act 1958. The main deity of the temple is lord Shiva in lingam form. The monument above depicts, lord Shiva in lord Nataraja form (god of dance) who dances on a asura (symbolizes evil and ignorance), in hands- fire (symbolizes forces of creation and destruction), drum (symbolizes beats and time), serpent and mudra (fearlessness), river Ganga (regeneration of life), third eye (inner wisdom), bent legs, arms and floating hair (energetic dance) and last but not least the monument of Nataraja depicts all the basic things of the universe (few known and many unknown).
