Summary[edit]

Description
English: Ashfield's 'Rosetta Stone' just inside the Arthur St entrance to Pratten Park. It contains a quote from the Iliad in 12 different languages. It was made by artist and letter cutter Ian Marr, who consulted with speakers from the community to translate the text. The quote has been taken from Homer's Odyssey, Book 4, lines 33-4 - 'many were the hospitalities that we enjoyed before we came here', or more poetically 'No stranger shall go empty from our gates, for we have eaten the bread of strangers in other lands.'
