Español: Las murallas fueron concebidas con el fin de proteger a Cartagena de Indias de los continuos ataques que sufría. Su construcción se llevó a cabo en etapas, comenzando en 1586 Bautista Antonelli, un ingeniero italiano al servicio de la Corona Española. Luego vendría en 1608 Cristóbal de Roda, quien fortificaría casi toda la parte de la ciudad que da al mar abierto.
