The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), along with South Dakota’s conservation districts, are helping producers recover from the devastating impacts of Atlas. Local staff provide free, on-site technical assistance for burial sites, soils information, fencing, evaluating needs related to water quality, and shelterbelts and winter protection. Financial assistance through the NRCS’ Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) can help with burial of dead livestock and replacing destroyed conservation practices. Producers must apply before doing the work in order to be eligible for financial assistance. Batch funding deadline is November 15, 2013. USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer. |
