Description
English: Votive altar in honor of the Egyptian king Ptolemy VI Philometor (=Loving his mother). The altar is decorated with deer head maintaining a garland. The text of the inscription is : People of Thera for the king Ptolemy and the queen Cleopatra, philometor gods, and for their children to Dionysos. Marbor, circa 180 - 145 BC, Thera (now Santorin Greece). Purchase from Choiseul-Gouffier collection 1818. Louvre museum (Paris, France). LL 93. Ma 2329.
Français : Autel votif en l'honneur du roi Ptolémée VI Philometor (=aimant sa mère). L'autel est décoré de têtes de cervidés soutenant une guirlande lisse. L'inscription indique : le peuple des Théréens pour le roi Ptolémée et la reine Cléopatre, dieux philométores, et pour leurs enfants à Dionysos. Marbre, vers 180 - 145 av. J.-C., Théra (maintenant Santorin, Grèce). Achat 1818 à la collection Choiseul-Gouffier 1818. Musée du Louvre. LL 93. Ma 2329.
