Autun (Saône-et-Loire) La cathédrale Saint-Lazare.
A gauche, le prophète Balaam* sur son ânesse. Il se rend auprès du roi de Moab, Balac, afin de maudire les hébreux venus d’Egypte. Il est arrêté sur son parcours par l’Ange du Seigneur avec son bras gauche levé. La monture de Balaam s’est agenouillée mais le prophète ne perçoit pas le message divin. Il est vêtu d’un manteau à capuche et tient dans ses mains un tau (Bâton pastoral qui deviendra la crosse de l'évêque. Le «tau» est très usité au moyen âge jusque vers le XIIIe siècle). Ensuite, en allant vers la gauche, on admire sur les chapiteaux la Présentation de Jésus au Temple*, la légende de saint Eustache*, et saint Jérôme et le Lion*.
