Description
Français : Parti, en 1876, étudier les religions de l’archipel nippon, Emile Guimet relate, à son retour, son voyage et la découverte de la vie quotidienne japonaise. Une des étapes fut l’île d’Enoshima près de Edo, l’actuelle Tokyo. Il écrit au sujet de cette île sacrée : « Comme on est bien dans ces lieux de repos ! Comme les japonais sont amoureux de la nature ! ». « Une femme, dont la figure nous rappelle les vierges des peintres primitifs, nous offre du thé… ». Cette jeune femme est immortalisée sous le trait de Félix Régamey, compagnon de voyage de Guimet. L’admiration des deux hommes, attentifs aux coutumes et aux traditions du Japon, se ressent.
