Summary
[edit]DescriptionBalzers FL - Gutenberg Castle (50874097513).jpg |
From decline to the reconstruction in the 20th century. Until the 18th century the Habsburgs owned the fort. As their castle constables acted the Lords of Ramschwag. After the death of Franz Ferdinand von Ramschwag (1716), the castle was no longer used. It fell into disrepair and served the people of Balzers as a quarry. Around 1780 the Donatus Chapel was also demolished. In 1905, Egon Rheinberger from Liechtenstein bought the ruins. Within five years he built a complex from it in the spirit of castle romanticism. Since 1979 the striking building has been owned by the State of Liechtenstein. 1 Access to the outer bailey 2 Outer bailey 3 Access to the inner ward 4 Access to the rose garden 5 Rose garden 6 Chapel 7 Chaplaincy (hall) 8 Outer ward 9 Inner gate 10 Bailey 11 Forge 12 Castle keep 13 Taproom 14 Cellar 15 Swiss hole 16 Marten tower 17 Cistern Balzers, January 24, 2021.
