Summary

[edit]
Description

From decline to the reconstruction in the 20th century. Until the 18th century the Habsburgs owned the fort. As their castle constables acted the Lords of Ramschwag. After the death of Franz Ferdinand von Ramschwag (1716), the castle was no longer used. It fell into disrepair and served the people of Balzers as a quarry. Around 1780 the Donatus Chapel was also demolished. In 1905, Egon Rheinberger from Liechtenstein bought the ruins. Within five years he built a complex from it in the spirit of castle romanticism. Since 1979 the striking building has been owned by the State of Liechtenstein.
