Description
Italiano: Exsiccata di Barbula byrdii E.B. Bartram = Gertrudiella gelida (Cardot) J.A. Jiménez & M.J. Cano 2021, comb. nov. ≡ Didymodon gelidus Cardot, muschio (Bryophyta sensu strictu) della famiglia Pottiaceae.

Gli esemplari furono raccolti dall’esploratore e geografo americano Paul Allman Siple in Antartide, sul Lichen Peak (76°55’ S e 145°20’ W), nella Marie Byrd Land (Saunders coast, Edsel Ford Ranges) nel corso della Byrd Antarctic Expedition II del 1933-1935.
Nel 1938, il muschio fu caratterizzato come specie nuova dal briologo americano Edwin Bunting Bartram, con il nome di Barbula byrdii.
Nel 1993 il briologo americano Richard Henry Zander, riesaminando il reperto conservato nel New York Botanical Garden Herbarium (NY), ritenne di trasferire la specie a un genere differente, pubblicando la nuova combinazione Bryoerythrophyllum byrdii (E.B. Bartram) R.H. Zander.

Successivamente Bryoerythrophyllum byrdii è stato accettato come sinonimo di Gertrudiella gelida (Cardot) J.A. Jiménez & M.J. Cano, 2021.
