DescriptionBarrels at the Wiese and Krohn warehouse in Vila Nova de Gaia - Apr 2011.jpg | While nearly all Port makers trace their roots to some combination of British and Portuguese ancestry, Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 by two young Norwegians, Theodor Wiese & Dankert Krohn. They originally came to Portugal to find a new market for Norwegian cod (the Portuguese love cod), but then decided that Norwegians would love Port wine. They started by buying from local producers but then set up their own winery and warehouse. The winery is now owned by the descendants of their Portuguese partner. We loved the 1983 Colheita and brought a bottle back to Baghdad with us. (FYI: "Vintage Port" is aged in the bottle while "Colheita Port" is aged in oak casks, so our 1983 spent 27 years aging in oak.) | ||
