The temple of Basaha Mahadev is located in Tharthok Ward No. 8 of Budhanilkantha Nagar Municipality of Kathmandu District. The temple of Basaha Mahadev is about 11 km from Hanumandhoka Durbar Square in Kathmandu and about 1 km from Budhanilkantha temple. At the foot of Shivpuri hill, the temple of Basaha Mahadev is located on the high ground near the road. According to the inscription in the temple premises, the temple of Basaha Mahadev is considered ancient. In the temple premises, there is a Shivalinga of Basaha Mahadev in the shade of a large peepal tree. It is also written that there is a big trident, damru etc. near Shivalinga and Basaha Mahadev near Ling. There are inscriptions and idols of various deities in the temple premises. To make it easier for the devotees, the signboard also says that it is the temple of Basaha Mahadev.
