Description
Deutsch: Giganten der Lüfte zum Sterben auf Wangerooge: Anfang Juli 2022 wurden in der Heidelandschaft und vor allem am Strand viele sterbende und tote Basstölpel gesehen: der Grund war ein Ausbruch der Vogelgrippe.

Typisch für die großen Segler ist eine gelbe Kopfkappe. Eine größere Kolonie gibt es unter andere auf Helgoland, zum überwintern ziehen die Tiere nach Westafrika.

Auf Wangerooge sind Basstölpel seit mindestens 1959 nachgewiesen. Sie wurden zum Beispiel von April bis Oktober beim Stoßtauchen beobachtet. Quelle: https://www.rhetos.de/html/lex/basstoelpel.htm
