English: Beaconsfield at 1706 Main south of Pease was built in 1911 with all the conveniences. There were 8 stories and a full basement, with two apartments on each floor. Each apartment had 3 bedrooms, each with a private bath, 2 screened balconies, steam radiators, centralized vacuum system, ice box with 600 pounds of ice, wood burning fireplaces, a private phone to other tenants, servants quarters, elevators, back stairways, and parking.
Beaconsfield tenants in 1913 were among the most successful and prosperous of Houston’s elite, comprising the top echelons of Houston corporate life. |
