Summary[edit]

Description There is a whole interesting world on the banks of Yamuna opposite the Taj Mahal. A village, Kachhpura, claiming its origins to the Kachwaha Rajput community to which the famous General Raja Man Singh of Rajputana belonged. In fact, as per legend, the land where the Taj is situated belonged to Raja Man Singh and was purchased by Shah Jahan to built the famous memorial for his beloved queen. Some enterprising people from the village act as illegal guides and also as camel operators and boatmen, mostly for the benefit of tourists to use as props. I have, during my several visits to the other bank, made friends with many. I have found them friendly and kind people, often exploited by the officials from archaeological Survey of India and police.
