Description

עברית: בית שערים הוא אתר ארכאולוגי השוכן בגליל התחתון. במקום התקיים יישוב יהודי חשוב בתקופת בית שני,

המשנה והתלמוד. באתר נמצאו מערות קבורה רבות ששימשו את אנשי . היישוב ויהודים מהתפוצות שבאו להיקבר במקום בו נקבר רבי יהודה הנשיא

בתמונה: מערת המוזוליאום ומערת הקברים - מספר 11. המוזוליאום נבנה בחלקו העליון של המתחם במקום נמצאה מערת קבורה בעלת רצפת פסיפס. לידה עמד מבנה אבני גזית בעל ארבע חזיתות. באחת הגומחות נמצא חלק מאפריז מעוטר בחיות.

ממצא נוסף היה ארון שיש עם גילוף תבליט של "לדה והברבור" ושברי לוח שיש שעליו חקוקה כתובת ביוונית:שוכב אני, בן לאונטיוס מת, יוסטוס בן ספו, אשר אחרי קטפי מהפירות של כל חכמה עזבתי את האור, ההורים האומללים המתאבלים בלי הרף, ואת האחים, אוי לו בבית שערים שלי, ואחרי לכתי שאולה, אני יוסטוס, שוכב כאן עם רבים מקרובי, הואיל וכך רצתה המוירה (הגורל) התקיפה. התנחם יוסטוס, אין איש בן-אלמות.

כתובת זאת התגלתה בשנת 1939, ומוזכר בה השם ביסרה שמה של בית שערים. הכתובת היוותה אישור סופי לזיהוי האתר כבית שערים. הממצאים מהמוזוליאום מוצגים במערת המוזיאון באתר.
