Summary
[edit]DescriptionBelle Meade Plantation, Belle Meade, TN. "The queen of Tennessee plantations.".jpg |
English: The original house on the site was built in 1807 in the Federal style. Either in 1853, or at some time before 1840, the house was altered and expanded into the current Greek Revival structure. The house is also known as the “Queen of Tennessee Plantations”. Wikipedia says “six solid [one-piece] limestone pillars quarried on the plantation and styled in the Doric order” make up the portico. Early on December 15, 1864, Union and Confederate forces fought on the front yard outside the mansion. Damage from bullets is still visible on the stone columns of the house.
