Description
Español: Benito L. Santos-Zenea González de Castilla (1841-15 de septiembre de 1875). — Coronel de Infantería, — Siendo Gobernador de Querétaro, murió repentinamente en la ciudad de ese nombre el 15 de Septiembre. El malogrado gobernante que asumió el poder en 1873, a los 32 años, y entre sus obras se recuerda el trazo del céntrico jardín que en su honor lleva su nombre, y murió repentinamente de un paro cardíaco la noche del 15 de septiembre de 1875.

Gobernador 17/04/1873 Benito Santos Zenea es nombrado gobernador interino y el 17 de mayo siguiente, tras haberse llevado a cabo elecciones, se convertiría en gobernador constitucional del estado. Entre sus obras destaca la Plaza de Armas o Plaza de la Independencia. También trabajó para convertir lo que se conocía como la plaza de los escombros, llamada así desde el sitio de Querétaro. Zenea hizo un proyecto que incluía la construcción de un nuevo palacio de gobierno y abrió un gran jardín que el pueblo comenzó a llamar jardín Zenea. El palacio de gobierno no llegó a terminarse y el sucesor de Zenea lo vendió a un español que lo convirtió en el Gran Hotel.

Muerte y remodelación del Jardín Zenea

En la misma casa vivió y murió repentinamente la noche del 1 5 de septiembre de 1 875 el gobernador don Benito Santos Zenea, poco antes de salir para el teatro a conmemorar el "Grito de Dolores." En la misma calle y en el número 29.
