Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1915, this boathouse is the third boathouse structure to stand on this site, with the original two boathouses having been built by Charles Bernard in the 19th Century, whom operated a boat rental operation on the site starting in the 1850s. This was continued by his son, William Bernard, whom built the current boathouse. In 1943, the boathouse was sold to Harry Hoover, and has since become known as the Bernard-Hoover Boathouse. The building features a wooden clapboard-clad exterior with casement and two-over-two double-hung windows, a front and rear gable roof with shed roofs on the side wings, paneled wooden doors, large doors on the first floor facing the lake, and skylights on the roof. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981, and presently houses the Mendota Rowing Club.
