Description
Deutsch: Besatzung einer Dornier Do 17 Z-2 / Z-3 (U5 + LM, weißes 'L'), 4./KG 2 (4. Staffel des Kampfgeschwaders 2), Flugplatz Großostheim b. Aschaffenburg, Mai 1940, v. l. n. r.: Bordfunker (BF) Feldwebel Bredtmeier, Flugzeugführer (FF) und Staffelkapitän Oberleutnant Otto Reimers, Beobachter (BO) Oberfeldwebel Berthold Krüger, Bordmechaniker (BM) Feldwebel Fritz Lohrer.

Die II./KG 2 mit ihrer 4., 5. und 6. Staffel verlegte ab dem 2./3. Oktober 1939 von Liegnitz (Niederschlesien) auf folgende mittel- und unterfränkische Flugplätze:

  • Schweinfurt, 4. Oktober 1939 --
  • Fürth, November 1939 --
  • Ansbach, Februar 1940 --
  • Großostheim, 19. April 1940 --
  • Ansbach, Ende April 1940 --
  • Großostheim, 10. Mai 1940.

Stab und II./KG 2 starteten am 10.05.1940, dem ersten Angriffstag gegen Frankreich (Westfeldzug/Frankreichfeldzug) von Biblis und Großostheim aus in Richtung Frankreich, ebenfalls die III./KG 2 vom Fliegerhorst Biblis (die III./KG 2 war zuvor in Illesheim stationiert vom 01.03.1940 bis 09.05.1940).

Währenddessen war der Stab des KG 2 stationiert in:

  • Kitzingen vom 3. Nov. 1939 bis Februar 1940;
  • Ansbach vom Februar 1940 bis 10. Mai 1940 (bis 1945 auch als Ansbach-Neukirchen bekannt, heute Flugplatz Ansbach-Katterbach bzw. Katterbach Army Airfield der US Army);
  • Biblis (heute Lkr. Bergstraße) vom 10. Mai 1940 bis 2. Juni 1940;
  • Trier-Euren vom 3. Juni 1940 bis 2. Juli 1940.
