| Description | This beautiful brick house is located on Bigelow Street in the southern portion of Cincinnati's Mount Auburn neighborhood near Hopkins Park. Constructed in the late 19th Century, this late Victorian-style house has many interesting features, including a round opening for the portion of the porch that enters the house's brick envelope, as well as a charming gingerbread porch, ornate brackets, brickwork and stonework. There was also once another house of similar size next door, which was torn down around 2008 as a result of federal funding for demolition of abandoned buildings as a result of the foreclosure crisis, which had the unintended consequence of leading to the loss of lots of historic fabric and hollowing-out of distressed neighborhoods. Today, this house shows what potential is locked in historic homes, something not considered at all by the federal demolition program under the Bureau of Housing and Urban Development. |
