Roosevelt being presented with a check for $1 million, the proceeds for the first national President's Birthday Ball event to benefit the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation (reconstituted in 1938 as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, later called the March of Dimes)

PRESIDENT GETS 'BIRTHDAY BALL' MILLION DOLLAR CHECK. AT THE WHITE HOUSE LAST NIGHT PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT RECEIVED A MILLION-DOLLAR CHECK FROM THE COMMITTEE IN CHARGE OF HIS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY LAST JANUARY. REAR ADMIRAL CARY T. GRAYSON, CHAIRMAN OF THE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION IS SHOWN MAKING THE PRESENTATION TO THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE AFTER WHICH THE CHECK WAS IMMEDIATELY TURNED OVER TO THE WARM SPRINGS FOUNDATION FOR SUFFERERS OF INFANTILE PARALYSIS.
