DescriptionBolitoglossa yucatana 2.jpg |
Yucatán Mushroomtongue Salamander (Bolitoglossa yucatana) Merida, Yucatan, Mexico This salamander is endemic to the Yucatan peninsula. Its legs are suited for climbing, and their tail is usually swollen with fat. They are very tolerant to dry conditions, and they are not very uncommon, but they are not usually seen by people, since they are quite secretive. Their belly is blue with white spots. I found this one on a small stick, next to the sidewalk, near a construction area, in which there's still some forest around. It rained a little bit that day, and its hiding spot was a crevice under the sidewalk. |
