Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Remains of a bag found in the wreck of the frigate Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes that contained buttons from a uniform of the Spanish Navy amalgamated with other metal and textile materials. The buttons correspond to the designs established by the military ordinances of 1793 and 1795, which fell into disuse after the Ordinance of 1802, and it has been theorized that they belonged to a navy sailor who decided to keep them. These buttons, exhibited in the National Museum of Subaquatic Archaeology, are the only preserved vestige that confirms the presence of Spanish Navy personnel on the Mercedes, reaffirming the status of the wreck as that of a Spanish warship.
