Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in the late 19th Century and 20th Century, these commercial buildings stand in an area that has taken over the role of being the primary commercial district in Perryville from the older Merchant’s Row on Buell Street across the river. The buildings feature brick exteriors, with the white building featuring a bracketed cornice and multiple adjoining additions to the west, while the red brick building was re-clad at some point in the late 20th Century or early 20th Century, and has lost its historic integrity. The commercial district shifting across the river to a new location is part of what helped to preserve Merchant’s Row, as newer buildings never were built to replace the historic 1830s and 1840s wooden buildings, allowing them to survive to the present day. One of the buildings and its additions are contributing structures in the Perryville Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The modified and more recently constructed buildings are noncontributing.
