Description
English: This is a brake diagram, intended to show the lever and rod arrangements. It is flattened into two dimensions for that purpose. Gray areas give only the general shape of the railroad car. Rod lengths are not accurate (and don't matter). Lever lengths are accurate from the Ann Arbor Railroad drawings for a 77 ton gondola, #2000 to #2094, built 1969. Note how the lever length ratios lead to equal pressure applied to each axle.
I drew it for Wikipedia on Feb. 25 2008 from an Ann Arbor Railroad mechanical drawing of Nov. 25 1969, in turn from the book "Freight Cars of the Ann Arbor Railroad 1947-1985" by Craig Wilson, published 1989 by the Ann Arbor Railroad Technical & Historical Association. Software used: Appleworks 6.

This diagram image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Brake Diagram.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
