Stone Curving of Brihannala and Uttarā in Hayagriva Madhava Temple
Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: It is a stone curving of the famous teacher and student duet Brihannala and Uttarā from Mahabharata. Arjun became Brihannala due to a curse and Uttarā on the other hand was the princess of Matshya Kingdom. Brihannala , being a tall, strong and womanly person became her Guruma. Arjun in the form of Brihannala was her dance and music teacher. Later Uttarā was married to Abhimanyu, the son of Arjun.
This stone carving from the era of Mahabharata tells us many stories about our ancient India , its culture enrichment and also about the ancient Indian art forms . The ancient architects had expressed their perfection of skill by stone carving and narrating stories on the walls without any machinery help. It is a matter of fact to be proud that how rich our culture was back then and these have borne witness throughout the ages. |
