Summary

[edit]
Description
English: c/n XO.4

TSR-2 was designed for strike and reconnaissance and had the potential to be one of the finest combat aircraft of the period. Unfortunately the entire project was cancelled before it had a chance to prove itself. Only one aircraft ‘XR219’ flew, and was later used as a range target and scrapped. The second ‘XR220’ was complete and ready to fly but never got the chance. It is now preserved at the RAF Museum, Cosford. ‘XR222’ seen here was the fourth TSR-2 and was built in 1965. It was never completed and after the cancellation it went to the Cranfield Institute of Technology as a teaching aid. By 1977 it was surplus to requirements and was donated to the Imperial War Museum (IWM), finally moving to Duxford in 1978. Restored to appear complete, it remains on display in the ‘AirSpace’ hangar at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK.
