| Description |
English: Towards the end of their lamentably short lives, the Westerns were a target for "nameplate rubbers". You take two, or preferably, three, small boys and roll of wallpaper and wax crayons and in the two minutes or so that a station stop at Solihull would take, you try to get a rubbing of the entire nameplate - nearly eight feet in some cases!. This working would be a Sunday evening in summer 1976 as the train was often booked for a Western, leaving Solihull at about 6.10pm if I remember, headed for Paddington.
