Summary[edit]

Description
English: The old Broadway State Bank building at the NW corner of Pike Street and Broadway in Seattle's Capitol Hill. Established in 1911 by pharmacist M.P. Leary with mostly Canadian backers, the Broadway State Bank first opened shop in the ground floor of the Avon Apartments at the Southwest corner of Broadway and Denny Way. In 1913 they commissioned the Beezer Brothers to design this building at Capitol Hill's main intersection. Suffering from low patronage and poor management, the bank closed its doors in 1917, causing a brief hysteria among depositors that led to a bank run that forced the closure of the German-American bank and Northern Bank & Trust Co., which were both falsely rumored to be connected to the failed Broadway bank. The building was occupied by a succession of vehicle financiers and loan offices for the next several decades. In recent years the building housed a Tully's Coffee until that company's self-destruction in 2012 and a Starbucks until 2020. The building is currently vacant and for lease.
