Summary[edit]

Description The remains of Bromholm Prior (also known as Bacton Abbey). The Priory was built in the early twelfth century and produced the Bronholm Psalter in the early fourteenth century. The priory is mentioned in the Canterbury Tales and Piers the Ploghman as a site of pilgrimage (it held what was believed to be a piece of the true cross). The priory also features in the Paston Letters as it was a benefice of the Paston family. Little now remains of the Priory and it is not easy to get access as the remains lie within farmland and the only road approaching the Priory is private. The remains are classed as a Grade 1 listed building.
