Summary
[edit]DescriptionBrooks Aqueduct (14962654720).jpg | The Brooks Aqueduct was built in the early 1910's by Canadian Pacific Railway to irrigate their lands. It brought water from Lake Newell to communities like Tilley Alberta. It was in commission for several decades until the cost of maintenance just became too high. Today, you can see the modern irrigation canal run parallel to a large portion of the Brooks Aqueduct. This area is now administered by the Eastern Irrigation District. The Brooks Aqueduct was visited on the last leg of our Historic Alberta tour this Summer, but is the first one listed on our annual pass. Very interesting history here about just how influential the railway was to Canada. You hear about the ancient Roman aqueducts, but there's a perfectly good aqueduct right in Alberta to look at! ;) |
