Title
Browndages Young Icons Edition Bandages
Description
Metal box of Browndages brand adhesive bandages. The family-owned company, Browndages, was founded in 2018 in Columbus, Ohio by the husband and wife team, Rashid Bashir and Intisar Madhi. The box contains twenty bandages in two brown tones and four assorted colors. The bandages feature one of two cartoon characters, Nuwayla, an aspiring ballerina, or Jasir, a future judge. Historically, name-brand bandages and other first aid equipment claimed as "flesh-colored" existed solely in soft pink or light tan tones. The use of white skin as the default basis for "flesh-color" excludes consumers of color. Companies including Soul Aid (1970s), Ebon-Aide (1990s) and more recently, Browndages and Tru-Colour®, developed bandages to represent people of color and fill this gap in the market.
