English: In 1929 Bruno Ahrends (1878–1948) projected the theater hall of Schule am Meer (= School by the Sea) on the German island of Juist which was erected in 1930/31. The ground-breaking ceremony was held on 3 May 1930 which also marked the 50th birthday of the school's founder Martin Luserke (1880–1968). The official house opening was at Pentecost/Whitsun weekend 1931. At that time the Hallenbau was the largest concrete building in East Frisia, Prussia. It included a large theater hall with stage and gallery which also was used for indoor sports classes in wintertime. At the beginning of the 1950s the building was completely modificated for a children's home named Inselburg (= island's castle). So since then it's not in its original state. The former theater hall became a second floor while the gallery and the stage were aborted. The building became more windows, but the long slim vertical strip of ribbon windows was closed with masonry. Today the building is part of the youth hostel of Juist.
