English: White parking bay marking lines in Buckingham Road N22 within the Wood Green CPZ (Controlled Parking Zone)
The photo on the left was taken from the western side of Buckingham Road facing north towards Bridge Street. The photo on the right is from the eastern side of the road. In both photos the parking bay end lines shown were incorrect double lines which, at the date of the photos, did not comply with Traffic Signs Regulations; nor follow drawings in the Traffic Signs Manual from the Department for Transport. Notice the faded white lines on the kerbs. Haringey Parking Service told me these are known as ‘witness marking’. (In another London borough I was told they are known as 'ghost marks'.) They are used by the contractors who paint the lines. These particular 'witness marks' are: S/Y (presumably single yellow) and PB (parking bay). Between them, on both sides of the road there are two vertical lines on the kerbs - incorrectly showing double white lines. In other words, the contractor painting the lines has copied the error in the 'witness mark'. This indicates that - at least when the Wood Green CPZ was marked - there were systemic problems within Haringey's Highways team and/or between them and the Council's contractors. _______________________________ § Click here to see Buckingham Road London N22 on Google Street Maps. IMPORTANT : In this or any other location my photos - especially from previous years - should not be relied on in an appeal. Not should Google photos which may be out of date. In many streets Haringey has corrected errors with both lines and signs. Although despite claiming a "rolling programme" to do this, an officer from the Highways Team admitted they are unable to maintain a simple up-to-date database showing which streets have been checked and corrected and which not. So in all cases, if you receive a PCN (parking ticket) I strongly advise carefully checking the current lines and signs where you parked. Make every effort to take clear detailed photos. |
