Summary[edit]

Description
English: Tawang Monastery is located in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, is the largest monastery in India. It was founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso in 1680–1681 and belongs to the Gelug school of Vajrayana Buddhism. The monastery's main temple known as the Dukhang, was built in 1860–61. A large Buddha image of 18 feet (5.5 m) height is in a lotus position inside Dukhang.
