Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Buffalo Creek Bridge is a historic bridge that carries Robert Parker Coffin Road across Buffalo Creek in Long Grove, Illinois. The one-lane bridge was built in 1906 by the Joliet Bridge and Iron Company, replacing an earlier wooden bridge. It uses a Pratt pony truss design, which is characterized by supports that extend above the deck of the bridge but do not cross over the roadway. A decorative wooden covering was added to the bridge in 1972 to decrease its maximum height and thus deter heavier vehicles. The covering was largely destroyed by a truck in 2018, which resulted in the placement of a heavy steel skeleton. It was hit twice by trucks and once by a school bus after its reopening in 2020. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 11, 2018.
